Redmi Note 10 5G phone
In June 2026 I've bought a box of broken and incomplete smartphones "for parts only". After closer examination I've found inside almost two sets of parts required to assemble Redmi Note 10 5G phone. While it is not fancy (4GB RAM might be limiting already) I've repaired one of them with intention to pass to family.
The biggest issue: I've got only one screen and while it worked, glass was shattered.
With aliexpress free shipping I've paid about $14 for replacement display (with handy extra thin guitar pick and few other small tools in the set), $2 for missing SIM tray, $2 for front protective glass (2 pieces) and $2 for the case. With upcoming tax on small e-commerce packages from China I would have to pay $12 more or buy it locally. While local prices for similar parts are usually not much higher, I would have problems with finding seller with everything I need. I'm not sure if similar repairs would make economical sense in the future.
I was also surprised that T-7000 glue I've ordered ("BAO SHUN DA" brand) is transparent, not black as I've expected. Well, not a big deal.
Removing FRP
I don't know the history of this phone but as I got it as a part of bigger set of hardware for spare parts, it is possible that it was left at service shop, probably not worthy repairing. It was locked and after wiping data I learnt what FRP is.
There are many guides how to bypass FRP on youtube, some of them did not work for me, many of them just advertising paid software that may or may not work. I've tried some free tools for bootloader unlocking, but they either did not support MT6833 or have issues with USB connection (perhaps I should use Linux instead of Windows?). Finally I managed to bypass it (at least till next reset) by using Talkback function, installing Activity Launcher from Mi App Store and then using Android Second Space function. Note that it is important what region is selected during android configuration, when using Poland as a location, necessary options in Mi App Store are missing.
